DOG TRAINING AT THE RESERVE

Training that makes more possible

At The Reserve, training isn’t about control—it’s about communication, confidence and connection. And it isn’t confined to a single class. Learning is a lifelong part of your dog’s wellbeing, woven naturally into everyday life. Skills like stay, come and loose-leash walking matter, but their greatest value is the freedom, adventures and opportunities they make possible.

Our goal is to help you train for the life you want to share with your dog. Because every dog, family, and goal is different, we offer support ranging from classes and workshops to Day Training and private coaching. You don’t have to do it all on your own—we’re here to help you and your dog build the skills, confidence, and connection to thrive together.

TRAINING PHILOSOPHY

Training that supports lifelong wellness

At The Reserve, the best training supports the whole dog — mind, body, and emotional wellbeing.

Dog Raising Paw
Training and enrichment are essential parts of a dog’s wellbeing.

Reward-based training and enrichment help preserve cognitive function as dogs age in addition to helping meet needs for social connection, physical activity, and problem-solving. And perhaps most importantly, a well-trained dog can enjoy greater freedom, more adventures, and a fuller life alongside their family.

Positive reinforcement leads the way.

Reward-based training is not permissive. It is a reliable scientifically studied approach to building desired behaviors in your dog while also encouraging a love of training and a stronger bond with you. Dogs are less likely to build stress-related behaviors.

Skills develop in layers and training is integrated in daily life.

Reliable behavior develops over time. We break new skills into achievable steps, build difficulty gradually, and adjust for each dog’s age, temperament, experience and emotional state. Rather than relying on long training sessions, we weave short, purposeful practice into everyday life so learning stays manageable, relevant and rewarding.

Shaping builds confident, thoughtful dogs.

Whenever possible, we use shaping—allowing dogs to offer behaviors, problem-solve and discover for themselves which choices earn reinforcement. Rather than simply directing every action, shaping encourages dogs to think, experiment and participate actively in the learning process. We apply a similar philosophy to grooming, handling and veterinary preparation whenever practical. The goal is not simply a dog who follows instructions, but one who becomes increasingly confident, capable and thoughtful about the choices they make.

Treat Every Dog—and Owner—as an Individual.

There is no single training plan that works for every dog or every family. We consider your dog’s age, health, temperament, motivation, emotional state and environment, while also helping you define goals that fit your lifestyle, priorities and desired level of training support. Just as importantly, we help owners build the knowledge and confidence to make thoughtful decisions and continue learning with their dog throughout life.
